“We Dey,” which takes its name from pidgin slang meaning We are here, is the project’s most anthemic track — a true, singalong-in-the-club banger. The track originated with whoisakin, who penned the song’s first verse, and was completed by Mr Eazi in Los Angeles during a session with Knucks, after the U.K. rapper/producer played him a beat he thought could fit the “We Dey” theme better. “The last four songs are semi-conscious,” Mr Eazi says. “We return to that on ‘We Dey.’ This was around the time we were protesting police brutality in Nigeria. So the song is saying: We out here in the streets, we are representing. We are alive.”
